Un gran Red Hook Crit ha aterrizado en el Reino Unido

Los rumores de que el Red Hook Crit iba a llegar a la capital Británica cada vez sonaban con más fuerza y, finalmente, este año se ha materializado la primera edición de las RHC Series en Londres.

El nuevo episodio de la famosa RHC Series llega, como ya nos tiene acostumbrados, con una semana previa cargada de eventos, fiestas y el reencuentro de todos aquellos que no quieren perderse esta gran cita.

El jueves empezaban con una pre-pre-party en la muy conocida Look mum no hands donde se daba el pistoletazo de salida oficial de lo que se denomina en las redes sociales como la #critweek.

El viernes por la tarde/noche era el turno de Oakley In Residence y su fiesta pre-party en los alrededores de Exmouth Market. Como era de esperar, la fiesta se puso hasta arriba de gente, la mayoría de los riders que competirían al día después se encontraban allí ocupando las calles de la ciudad londinense y creando un ambiente genial. Saludos, cervezas, y risas fueron sin duda los protagonistas de la noche.

RHC LONDON No.1

El lugar escogido para llevar a cabo esta primera edición del Red Hook Criterium London fue el Greenwich Península, en los alrededores del 02 Arena. Una zona, creemos, bastante acertada por las características del sitio y que, a pesar de las limitaciones que suelen poner las administraciones para organizar este tipo de eventos deportivos, ha estado a la altura.

Como crítica constructiva, encontramos en falta un mejor acceso en bicicleta a la Península. Solo encontramos un único túnel peatonal que permitía cruzar el río en bicicleta y llegar hasta la zona donde se disputaba la carrera sin necesidad de usar otros medios de transporte.

Respecto al circuito, se trataba de un trazado de 1,1 km de longitud, atractivo y en el que se podía ir muy rápido. Se caracterizaba por la técnica de sus curvas, una larga recta y diferentes tipos de asfalto que añadían un plus de emoción al recorrido.

Nos gustaría destacar que para esta ocasión se colocaron cámaras por todas las zonas del circuito que permitían al público y al resto de corredores seguir la carrera por una pantalla gigante situada en el parc fermé, sin duda, una gran idea.

THE RACE

Llegaba el momento de las clasificaciones, con cinco grupos para la categoría masculina (uno menos de los que suelen ser) y uno para la femenina. Hubo varios sustos durante el transcurso de cada grupo, pero si hay una caída que destacaríamos es la que sucedió en el grupo uno. Un accidente múltiple en la curva previa a la gran recta y que involucró a un buen montón de corredores de equipos como el Team Cinelli Chrome, Bahumer Racing, Dafne Fixed y algún que otro más, y que obligó a detener por unos instantes la clasificación e intervenir a las ambulancias.

Women race

El nivel de las chicas no deja de aumentar y en cada una de las carreras que se van disputando aparecen nuevas corredoras que se animan a participar y luchar duro por hacerse hueco entre las mejores riders.

La vencedora del breakfast (sprint de la primera vuelta) fue la británica Jo Smith del equipo Adalta Cycling Club que tuvo que esforzarse mucho para conseguir arrebatarle a Ainara Elbusto este premio.

Durante la carrera, Kacey Lloyd y la misma Ainara tuvieron varios intentos de escapada rodando a un ritmo de infarto pero, pese a ello, las perseguidoras Ash Duban, Sammi Runnels, Fleur Faure y Jo Celso, consiguieron alcanzarlas y compactar el grupo de cabeza

A pocas vueltas del final Fleur lanzó un ataque para tratar de escaparse e intentar llevarse la victoria pero las más fuertes no se lo permitieron y todo se decidió en un increíble sprint final entre Ainara y Kacey en la que la española acabó llevándose la victoria.

Last Chance

Como ya sucedió en Milán en 2014, la Last Chance o, la carrera de repesca, como muchos la llaman, acabó siendo cancelada debido al tiempo que se perdió con las caídas y, suponemos, por no arriesgar y dar pie a más incidentes que puedan afectar a las carreras finales.

Men race

Todavía no nos habíamos recuperado de la emocionante carrera que nos regalaron las chicas que ya daba comienzo el plato fuerte del día.

Los corredores más fuertes se encontraban en sus posiciones y David Trimble iniciaba la esperada cuenta atrás.

Mario Paz Duque alias “Chino” (IRD Modena) salió como un tiro para intentar llevarse una vez más el sprint inicial pero esta vez tuvo que disputarlo con el americano Zac Felpel (Heavy Pedal) que no se lo puso fácil. Finalmente, Mario consiguió su cuarto breakfast consecutivo y aseguraba así la subida al podio al finalizar la prueba.

La cabeza de carrera se reagrupaba gracias al trabajo de Addison Zawada del State Bicycle Co. que vuelta a vuelta consiguió arañar la ventaja de los escapados y consiguió compactar el pelotón. Addison hizo una gran carrera y eso le llevó a alzarse con el premio Top Antagonist.

Luchando por las primeras posiciones se encontraban la mayoría de los preferidos: Thibaud Lhenry (Team Cinelli Chrome), Ivan Ravaioli (Bahumer Racing Team), Mario Paz Duque (IRD Modena), Augusto Reati (Supernova Factory Team), William Guzman (Impulse Stage) y Raul Torres (Leader Bikes).

Finalmente, William Guzman, después de conseguir el mejor tiempo durante la fase de clasificación y mantenerse en las primeras posiciones estudiando a sus rivales, consiguió alzarse con la victoria en el sprint final, seguido por Mario Paz Duque y Thibaud Lhenry.

Rumours that the Red Hook Crit would come to the British capital increasingly sounded more forcefully and, finally, this year the first edition of the Series RHC London has been created.

The new episode of the famous Series RHC arrives, as already it usually does, with a prior week full of events, parties and the reunion of all those who don’t want to miss this great event.

Thursday began with a pre-pre-party in the famous Look mum no hands where officially started what it is called in the social network as the #critweek.

On Friday evening it was the turn of Oakley In Residence and its pre-party on the outskirts of Exmouth Market. As expected, the party was completely filled with people, the majority of the riders who would race the day after were there, on the streets of London and making a great atmosphere. Greetings, beers, and laughter were, without a doubt, the protagonists of the evening.

RHC LONDON No.1

The place chosen to carry out this first edition of the Red Hook Criterium London was the Greenwich Peninsula, closed to the 02 Arena. A zone that we believe, quite correct due to the characteristics of the location and that, despite the limitations that typically make the administrations to organize this type of sport events, they were up to scratch.

As constructive critique, we missed a better bike access to the Peninsula. We only found a single pedestrian tunnel which allows crossing the River by bicycle and get to the race area without using other means of transport.

Regarding the circuit, it was a path of 1.1 km long, attractive and in which you could go very fast. It is characterized by the technique of its curves, long straight and different types of asphalt that added a plus of excitement to the tour.

We’d like to point out that for this occasion cameras were placed by all areas of the circuit allowing the public and the rest of the riders follow the race by a giant screen situated in the parc fermé, without a doubt, a great idea.

THE RACE

The qualification started, with five groups for the men’s category (one less than usually) and one for the women’s category. There were several scares in the course of each group, but if there is a fall that we would highlight is that happened in the first group. A multiple accident at the curve before the long straight that involved a lot of riders of teams as Team Cinelli Chrome, Bahumer Racing, Dafne Fixed and some other more, and forced to stop for a few moments the classification and to come ambulances.

Women race

The women level continues to increase and in each race new riders come, who dare to participate and fight hard for niche among the best riders.

The winner of the breakfast (sprint of the first round) was the British Jo Smith of Adalta Cycling Club team who had to work hard to take this award from Ainara Elbusto.

During the race, Kacey Lloyd and the same Ainara had several attempts to escape, reaching an amazing speed, despite this, the persecutors Ash Duban, Sammi Runnels, Fleur Faure and Jo Celso, managed to reach them and to complete the leading group

Just a few laps from the end Fleur attacked, she tried to escape to get the victory but the strongest didn’t allow her and all was decided in an incredible final sprint between Ainara and Kacey in which the Spanish ended up getting the victory.

Last Chance

As already happened in Milan in 2014, Last Chance, or play-off, as many call it, has been cancelled due to the time lost with the fall and we assume, not to risk and give cause for more incidents that may affect the final races.

Men race

Not yet recovered from the exciting women race that it started already the highlight of the day.

The stronger riders were in their positions and David Trimble began the expected countdown.

Mario Paz Duke alias “Chino” (IRD Modena) came out full throttle to get the initial sprint once again but this time had to dispute it with the American Zac Felpel (Heavy Pedal) who not made it easy. Finally, Mario got his fourth consecutive breakfast and thus ensured the podium at the end of the race.

The head of race gathered thanks to the work of Addison Zawada of the State Bicycle Co. who lap to lap got to cut back the advantage of the escaped riders and managed to assemble the bunch. Addison made a great race and that led him to win the Award Top Antagonist.

Fighting for the top positions were the most favourites: Thibaud Lhenry (Team Cinelli Chrome), Ivan Ravaioli (Bahumer Racing Team), Mario Paz Duque (IRD Modena), Augusto Reati (Supernova Factory Team), William Guzman (Impulse Stage) and Raul Torres (Leader Bikes).

Finally, William Guzman, after getting the fastest time during qualifying and staying in the top positions studying their rivals, managed to win the victory in the final sprint, followed by Mario Paz Duke and Thibaud Lhenry.
