Enough CC: Ciclismo en todas sus formas

Una de las mejores cosas del ciclismo es que puedes experimentarlo de muchas maneras. Puedes andar en bicicleta con un contrato como profesional en mente, para estar en buena forma para tu próxima aventura en bicicleta, o simplemente para ir a la oficina.

El ciclismo puede ser tanto explorar como competir, ya sea en caminos accidentados de gravel o carreteras recién pavimentadas, y todo lo que hay entre medio. No hay una definición clara de qué significa montar en bicicleta, y ya está bien que así sea. Enough Cycling Collective es consciente de esto y piensan en el ciclismo como una forma de ver el mundo y mirarse a sí mismos.

Las bases de Enough CC

Dadas las diferentes formas en las que se puede disfrutar del ciclismo, quieren animar a la gente a probar un poco de todo y encontrar lo que más les conviene. No hay muchas barreras de entrada para empezar a pedalear, por lo que se trata principalmente de introducirlos en el mundo de la bicicleta.

Hoy en día, las personas que se inician en este deporte prefieren comenzar primero alejados de la carretera, ya que consideran que el ciclismo de ruta es para profesionales e inherentemente peligroso por culpa de los coches. El gravel parece involucrar más a las personas, y nosotros mismos lo podemos confirmar.

Uno de los principales objetivos de Enough CC es romper las barreras entre disciplinas. Hacen gran fondos, carreras de ultra distancia y más. La gente puede imaginarlos como un colectivo de gravel porque están presentes en todo tipo de eventos de esta disciplina, pero según ellos es porque creen que es la mejor manera de inspirar a la gente a subirse a una bicicleta. “La clave es la contaminación” dice Federico Damiani – miembro del colectivo – refiriéndose a cómo un carretero puede sentirse persuadido por las posiblidades del mundo off-road y viceversa .

El colectivo

Enough CC comenzó en 2021 con ocho personas de diferentes orígenes, con pocos puntos en común pero la misma voluntad de sacar a la luz algo que pudiera inspirar a las personas a usar una bicicleta y comenzar a explorar el mundo.

Dentro de los nueve corredores actuales del equipo, encontramos tres mujeres y seis hombres, con una fracción de ellos dedicada principalmente a las carreras puras, mientras que el resto cubre ambos lados del espectro por igual.

Estamos seguros de que crecerán exponencialmente con los años, así que ahora que todavía podemos contarlos con los dedos de las manos, qué menos que mencionar a los miembros del equipo.

Mattia De Marchi es un todoterreno que puede rendir tanto en Gran Fondos como en carreras de varios días. Maria Vittoria Sperotto y Francesco Bettini están más enfocados en carreras de gravel de un día, principalmente porque provienen de una carrera profesional en ciclismo de ruta. Jacopo Lahbi, Federico Bassis, Asja Paladin y Federico Damiani están más centrados en el bikepacking y las largas distancias. Manuel Truccolo es un corredor de largas distancias todoterreno, y Elisa Vottero es una viajera y bikepacker pura y dura.

Cada uno de los ciclistas del equipo tiene una historia interesante que contar y un valor que agregar al colectivo. De la misma forma que son autosuficientes sobre sus bicicletas, ellos mismos se encargan de la creación de contenidos, relaciones de patrocinio y logística. Han hecho amigos en toda Europa, por lo que donde quiera que vayan también reciben ayuda adicional de personas dispuestas a colaborar con ellos.

Han ganado visibilidad gracias al interesante contenido que publican en redes sociales, incluidos reportajes exhaustivos de carrera complementados con una cobertura fotográfica de alta calidad, pero también pies de foto divertidos. No obstante, los resultados del equipo en algunas de las pruebas de gravel más relevantes del panorama internacional también hablan por sí solos.

Presentes en todas partes

No es necesario mirar de cerca todas y cada una de las hojas de resultados de los eventos recientes de gravel y ultraciclismo para haber encontrado el nombre de Mattia en algún momento durante los últimos dos años. Es el ganador actual de Badlands, The Traka 360 y Gravel Epic Switzerland, por lo que claramente se le da bien pedalear rápido durante un largo período de tiempo.

El ciclismo es para él tanto una profesión como una pasión, y en lugar de centrarse en sí mismo, le encanta compartir su conocimiento y talento con todas las personas con las que se cruza, ya sean miembros del equipo u otros ciclistas que buscan consejos.

Tiene planes ambiciosos para esta temporada, comenzando por retener la corona en las carreras que ganó en 2021 e intentar otros eventos en todo el mundo. El equipo ha configurado un calendario de carreras muy interesante, por lo que Mattia tendrá la oportunidad de demostrar de lo que es capaz en diferentes entornos.

Este año ya participaron en la GF Strade Bianche, pero no estaban allí solo para ese evento. Antes de presentarse en la línea de salida en Siena, hicieron bikepacking durante dos días siguiendo el Tuscany Trail, cuyo evento oficial es a finales de mayo.

El pasado fin de semana casi todo el equipo participó en la Gran Guanche Audax. No todos pedaleaban al mismo ritmo, pero se reunían en algunos puntos para disfrutar juntos de la belleza de las islas. A continuación, Enough Cycling Collective comenzará a viajar por todo el mundo, pero asegurándose de estar presente también en los eventos más relevantes cerca de casa.

Participarán por primera vez en carreras de gravel en los EE. UU., pasarán gran parte de su verano en el este de África para la Migration Gravel Race y Evolution Gravel Race, y competirán en algunos de los eventos más valorados como The Rift, Badlands o Silk Road Mountain Race.

Como recalcan frecuentemente, no todo se trata de competir, por lo que eventos que son más un festival o una reunión de amigos que una carrera, como BAM! o Pavè, también tienen un lugar en su calendario anual. En conclusión, las posibilidades de encontrar Enough CC en algún momento durante el año son bastante altas.

Patrocinadores a bordo

Para 2022 han reunido a un interesante grupo de marcas para ayudarlos a lograr sus objetivos y llegar a audiencias más amplias. Su nueva equipación en colaboración con Pas Normal Studios ha sacudido las redes sociales con su diseño disruptivo. Según Karl-Oskar Olsen, cofundador y director creativo de la marca danesa, se inspiraron en la música psicodélica y el jazz para diseñar el patrón.

Pas Normal Studios ha entrado recientemente en la aventura y el ciclismo off-road, y siempre han estado involucrados en proyectos que intentan hacer las cosas de manera diferente, desafiando la percepción de lo que es el ciclismo. Esto está en línea con la forma en que describimos Enough CC anteriormente, por lo que hay una clara conexión entre ambas partes.

En cuanto a las bicicletas, han fortalecido sus asociaciones con 3T Bike y Fulcrum Wheels en 2022, y ahora montan cuadros y ruedas personalizados que los harán destacar aún más por encima del resto.

Acaban de empezar, pero claramente están haciendo las cosas de la manera correcta. Los verás y escucharás hablar mucho sobre ellos y ya sea que hayas estado en el mundo del ciclismo durante varios años o no, te sentirás parte de su proyecto y su compromiso por todo lo que hacen.

One of the best things about cycling is that you can experience it in many ways. You can ride your bike with a professional contract in mind, to be in decent shape for your next bike trip, or just to get to the office.

Cycling can be both exploring and racing, on rough gravel or recently resurfaced roads, and everything in between. There is no clear definition of what cycling is about, and that is fine. Enough Cycling Collective is aware of this, and they think of cycling as a way to see the world and look into themselves.

The foundations of Enough CC

Given the different ways in which you can enjoy cycling, they want to encourage people to try a bit of everything and find what suits them the best. There are not many entry barriers to start riding, so it is mainly about introducing them to this world.

Nowadays, people that get into the sport prefer to start off-road first, as they consider that road cycling is for professionals and it is inherently dangerous because of cars. Gravel seems to engage people more, and we can see the reasons why.

One of the main goals of Enough CC is to break barriers among disciplines. They do Gran Fondos, ultra races and more. People may picture them as a gravel collective because they are present in all kinds of events around this cycling discipline, but according to them, it is because they think that is the best way to inspire people to jump on a bike. “The key is the contamination”, says Federico Damiani – team member of the collective – referring to how a roadie can be persuaded to try gravel after seeing what is possible to do off-road, and the other way around.

The collective

Enough CC started in 2021 with eight people coming from different backgrounds, with few points in common but the same willingness to develop something that could inspire people to use a bike and start exploring the world.

Within the current nine riders of the team we find three women and six men, with a fraction of them being mostly dedicated to pure racing while the rest cover both sides of the spectrum equally.

We are sure that they will grow exponentially over the years, so now that we can still count them with our hands, let’s at least mention all of their team members.

Mattia De Marchi is an all-rounder who is able to perform both in Gran Fondos and multi-day races. Maria Vittoria Sperotto and Francesco Bettini are more focused on one-day gravel races, mainly because they come from a professional road cycling career. Jacopo Lahbi, Federico Bassis, Asja Paladin and Federico Damiani are more focused on bikepacking and long distances. Manuel Truccolo is an off-road long-distance rider, and Elisa Vottero is a pure traveler and bikepacker.

Each of the team riders has an interesting story to tell and value to add to the collective. In the same way that they are self-sufficient on their bikes, they take care of the content creation, sponsorship relations and logistics around the team. They have made friends all over Europe, so wherever they go they also get some additional help from people willing to collaborate with them.

They have gained visibility thanks to the interesting content they publish, including exhaustive race reports complemented by high-quality photo coverage, but funny captions too. Nonetheless, the results of the team in some of the most relevant gravel events speak for themselves too.

There is no need to take a close look at the results sheets of the recent gravel and ultracycling events to have come across the name of Mattia De Marchi at some point over the past couple of years. He is the current winner of Badlands, The Traka 360 and Gravel Epic Switzerland, so he is clearly good at riding fast for a long period of time.

Cycling is for him both a profession and a passion, and instead of focusing on himself, he loves to share his knowledge and talent with everyone he comes across, whether team members or other riders looking for tips.

He has ambitious plans for this season, starting from retaining his crown in the races he won in 2021, and having a go at other events all over the world. The team has set up a very interesting race calendar, so Mattia will have the chance to prove what he is capable of in different environments.

Leaving no stone unturned

This year they already took part in GF Strade Bianche, but they weren’t there just for that event. Before lining up in Siena they did bikepacking for two days following the Tuscany Trail, whose official event is in late May.

A couple of weeks ago, almost the entire team took part in the Gran Guanche Audax. Not all rode at the same pace, but they gathered at some points to enjoy the beauty of the islands together. Up next, Enough Cycling Collective will start traveling all over the world, but making sure they are present in the most relevant events close to home too.

They will take part in gravel races in the US for the first time as a collective spend a big part of their summer in East Africa for the Migration Gravel Race and Evolution Gravel Race, and race some of the most highly-valued events like The Rift, Badlands or the Silk Road Mountain Race.

As they stress on several occasions, it is not all about racing, so events that are more a festival or friends gathering than a race, like BAM! or Pavè, have also a place on their yearly calendar. All in all, the chances of coming across Enough CC at some point during the year are quite high.

Sponsors on board

For 2022 they have gathered an interesting group of brands to help them achieve their goals and reach broader audiences. Their new kit in collaboration with Pas Normal Studios has shaken social media with its disruptive design. According to Karl-Oskar Olsen, co-founder and creative director of the Danish brand, they were inspired by psychedelic music and jazz to design the pattern.

Pas Normal Studios has recently stepped into adventure and off-road riding, and they have always been involved in projects that try to do things differently, challenging the perception of what cycling is. This is in line with how we described Enough CC earlier, so there is a clear match between both parties.

Bike-wise, they have strengthened their partnerships with 3T Bike and Fulcrum Wheels through 2022, and they now ride custom frames and wheels that will make them stand out even more from the rest.

They have just started, but they are clearly doing things in the right way. You will see and hear a lot about them, and whether you have been into cycling for multiple years or not, you will feel part of their project and engage with what they do.
