La segunda edición del Criterio Fixed (criterio.cc) tuvo lugar en Rio de Janeiro, la ciudad de las Artes (Cidade das Artes), el sábado 27 de Junio, en este monumental proyecto postmoderno del arquitecto francés Christian de Portzamparc, donde los mejores corredores de Brasil se enfrentaron el uno contra el otro en un circuito de 1,3 km.

ESCENA LOCAL

Brasil está muy por detrás en comparación con otras ciudades del mundo cuando hablamos de bicis de piñón fijo. Hay sólo unas cuantas carreras exclusivas patrocinadas por la federación para ciclistas profesionales. Así, la segunda edición del Criterio Fixed es una marca importante para consolidar la escena fixed local. Alex hace la mayor parte de cosas él mismo, eso supone un gran esfuerzo sobretodo viendo el estado actual.

En esta edición algunos corredores tenían algún patrocinador, lo cual ya es un gran cambio respeto a la edición pasada. Wolfpack Hustle y Red Hook Crit son uno de los patrocinios más comunes por ahora. Cerca de la línea de salida tuvimos mucho espacio para calentar con los rodillos, poner una tienda – bar de bicis, cerveza artesanal y una pequeña cantidad de público.

CORREDORES

En la categoría 1 toda la atención fue para Diego “The Kid”, quien ganó la última edición. Todo el mundo ha ido siguiendo su recuperación desde su accidente cuatro meses atrás. Sus Resultado del Strava durante el entrenamiento para este Crit son impresionantes. Trajo un amigo y buen corredor como compañero de equipo. Otra gran presencia fue Aline Cavalcante, nuestra particular Jo Celso! compitiendo con el equipo de Psicodrome junto con Beatriz Folly, ganadora de la edición pasada.

RESULTADOS

No hubo clasificación por falta de corredores.

CAT 3: Frederico Galeno fue, sin duda, mucho más fuerte que sus oponentes, ganando con una gran diferencia de 1,30 minutos. Algunos dijeron que era capaz de correr en Cat 2. Otra corredora a destacar fue Gabriela Ribeiro que consiguió la posición 13 siendo la única chica compitiendo en esta categoría.

CAT 2: Constaba de 27 corredores del mismo nivel. La competencia fue feroz en cada vuelta y en general fue una carrera muy igualada entre riders, pero nadie superaba al ganador. En el sprint final Guilherme Garmatte se puso en primer lugar junto a otro cuatro corredores que llegaron juntos a la final!

CAT Féminas: Fue la más competitiva con solo 7 chicas dándolo todo! Meses de entrenamiento para esta carrera, estas chicas estaban preparadas. Parecían ser muy estratégicas, siempre hablándose y comunicándose con sus compañeros de equipo. Daba gusto ver a esas corredoras. Como era de esperar, Aline Cavalcante se puso en el primer lugar, Beatriz Folly en segundo lugar y Marie Gautherot en tercer lugar.

CAT 1: ¡fue brutal! Desde el principio de la carrera los corredores pusieron un ritmo infernal hasta que romper a los corredores más débiles. Los primeros cinco corredores hicieron un cambio de ritmo que nadie pudo seguir. En la segunda mitad de la carrera comenzaron a contratacarse mutuamente. En la línea de meta Diego “The Kid” ganó demostrando su gran forma física, sin mostrar ningún signo de cansancio. ¡Está haciendo un muy buen trabajo! En segundo lugar Jim Guzinski y en tercer lugar Eduardo Model.

El público estaba tan emocionado que querían más. Fue un gran momento para el movimiento del piñón fijo en Brasil. Esperemos que se hagan más carreras de este tipo!

The second edition of Criterio Fixed (criterio.cc) took place in Rio de Janeiro`s City of Arts (Cidade das Artes) on Saturday 27_thof June, at this monumental post-modern project from the French architect Christian de Portzamparc, where the best riders from Brazil faced each other on a 1.3k circuit.

LOCAL SCENE

Brazil is far away from other cities in the world when we talk about fixed gear bikes. There are only a few exclusive races provided by the federation for pro cyclists. So, the second edition of the Criterio Fixed is an important mark to consolidate the fixed gear bike status. Alex does most of everything himself, which is a big effort according the actual scene.

In this edition some riders had a few sponsors, which is already a big change from last year’s race. Wolfpack Hustle and Red Hook Crit sponsorship are pretty common at the moment. Near the start line we had lots of space to warm-up by rollers, a bike coffee shop, craft beer and a small audience crowd.

RIDERS

In Category 1 all of the attention was drawn to Diego, The Kid, last year’s edition winner. Everyone had been following his healing process since his crash four months earlier. His Strava data while training for this Crit is impressive. He brought a friend and good rider to partner up and ride with him as a team. Other big presence was Aline Cavalcante, our Jo Celso!, racing with Psicodrome´s team along with Beatriz Folly, last year winner.

RACES

There were no Qualifying or Pre-Finals… the number of riders wasn`t enough for that (yet).

CAT 3: Frederico Galeno was visibly stronger than his opponents, winning with a big time gap of 1:30 minutes. Some said that he was able to race Cat 2. Another highlight was Gabriela Ribeiro who conquered 13^th place and was the only girl in Cat 3.

CAT 2: was crowded with 27 riders in the same training level. Competition was fierce in every lap and overall it was a super close race, but nobody would hit the winner. In the final sprint Guilherme Garmatte took first place followed by four other riders had the same finish time!

Womens CAT: was the most competitive with just 7 girls giving everything they had! Months of training for this race, these girls were prepared. They appeared to be very strategic, always yelling and communicating with their teammates. Pretty nice to watch such dedicated riders. As expected, Aline Cavalcante took first place, Beatriz Folly second and Marie Gautherot third.

CAT 1: was brutal! Since the beginning the riders hammered until they broke weaker riders. The first five riders made a breakway and nobody could bridge to them. In the second half of the race they started to test each other with little attacks, but all responded. At the finish line Diego, The Kid won in great shape, expressing no sign of being tired. He is doing a good job! In 2^nd place was Jim Guzinski and in 3^rd Eduardo Model.

The crowd was so excited that they wanted more. It was a great moment for the fixed movement in Brazil. We hope that more and more races will come!
