Among the Giants: Slovenian Wild Roads

Among the Giants es un proyecto que resume la nueva esencia de RAW Cycling Magazine: ciclismo, amigos, montañas, escenarios idílicos y mucha aventura. Un concepto muy simple y puro que tiene como valor máximo el placer de disfrutar de nuestro deporte entre amigos en contacto con los elementos de la naturaleza en su máxima expresión, las montañas.

En la primera edición no pudimos resistirnos a la atracción de Italia y sus míticas etapas del Giro d’Italia así que organizamos nuestra primera expedición al corazón de los Dolomitas. En 3 días recorrimos algunos de los puertos más míticos: Sella, Pordoi, Giau, Falzarego, Gardena, Valparola, Campolongo, y Alpe de Siusi, todos ellos rodeados por uno de los paisajes más fascinantes e indescriptibles.

Disfrutamos, sufrimos, reímos, hicimos nuevas amistades, compartimos muchos momentos juntos y después de tres magníficos días de ciclismo, solo teníamos una pregunta en nuestra cabeza: ¿Y el año que viene? ¿Dónde vamos?

Slovenian Wild Roads

En un primer momento de violento “brain-storming” salieron nombres míticos como: Francia y los puertos del Tour, Italia de nuevo (tenemos una cita pendiente con el Passo del Stelvio), o algo más exótico como Mallorca o Tenerife. Realmente sitios que son emblemáticos y con los cuales cada ciclista sueña. Sin embargo, pese a ser todos ellos grandes destinos para ciclistas, había algo que no nos convencía.

Stef: “Un día de relax, mientras permanecía tirado en mi sofá mirando un programa sobre los mejores cocineros del mundo, y justo hablaban de una chef de Eslovenia reconocida entre las mejores cocineras del mundo. Viendo los increíbles panoramas de las montañas, valles verdes y ríos turquesas. No me resistí en proponerlo como próximo destino.

Tras escasos 10 minutos, mi socio Toni y yo lo teníamos claro”.

Desde ese mismo instante empezamos a planificar las que serían las rutas de nuestra nueva aventura y nos sorprendieron gratamente los paisajes y las posibilidades que ofrecen las montañas eslovenas.

No todo es diversión, organizar ATG significa también esfuerzo y dedicación. Como en la primera edición, para Among the Giants – Slovenian Wild Roads hemos logrado juntar un grupo de ciclistas que reflejan la esencia del proyecto.

Este año, igual que el anterior, contamos con la presencia de nuestro amigo Brazo de Hierro como fotógrafo oficial del viaje e incorporamos al equipo de trabajo a Marcel Batlle, diseñador gráfico, apasionado por el deporte y el ciclismo y que, sin dudarlo ni un instante, decidió unirse a este gran proyecto.

Para esta ocasión, también contamos con la colaboración de las marcas: Oxeego, ON Y VA Sports Culture, Bellé Cycles, The Draft, RAW Cycling Magazine, Le Coq Sportif, The Service Course, HED Cycling, Madform y ASSOS of Switzerland.

¡Tan solo faltan unos días! ¡Los gigantes nos esperan!

Among the Giants is a project that summarizes the new essence of RAW Cycling Magazine: cycling, friends, mountains, idyllic scenarios and many adventures. It’s a very simple and pure concept which has the pleasure of enjoying our sport with people and be in contact with the elements of nature, the mountains.

In the first edition we couldn’t resist the attraction of Italy and its mythical stages of the Giro so we organized our first expedition into the heart of the Dolomites. In 3 days we went through some of the most legendary defiles: Sella, Pordoi, Giau, Falzarego, Gardena, Valparola, Campolongo and Alpe de Siusi, all of them surrounded by one of the most fascinating and indescribable landscapes.

We enjoyed, suffered, laughed, made new friends, shared many moments together and after three magnificent days of cycling, we only had one question on our minds: and the coming year? Where are we going?

Slovenian Wild Roads

The initial “brain-storming” came out mythical names such as France and the passes of the Tour, Italy again (we have a pending appointment with the Passo dello Stelvio), and something more exotic such as Mallorca or Tenerife. Actually they are emblematic places where every rider dreams to ride. However, despite being all great destinations for cyclists, there was something that did not convince us.

Stef: “a day of relax, while I was lying on my couch watching a program about the best chefs in the world, and they were just talking about a chef of Slovenia recognized as one of the best cooks of the world. I was watching the incredible panoramas of mountains, green valleys and Turquoise Rivers. I didn’t have any doubt to propose it as next destination.

Since then we started planning which would be our new adventure, routes and landscapes and the possibilities offered by the Slovenian mountains surprised us pleasantly.

Not everything is fun, organize ATG also means hard work and dedication. As in the first edition, of Among the Giants – Slovenian Wild Roads have managed to gather a group of cyclists that reflect the essence of the project.

This year, same as above, we counted with the presence of our friend Brazo de Hierro as official photographer of the trip and we have added to the team Marcel Batlle, graphic designer, passionate about sport and cycling and without hesitating for a moment, decided to join this great project.
